Here comes the future king of lawns
There are some great cylinder mowers on the market for home lawns that are more or less traditional. Although the first cordless cylinder mowers were made 70 years ago, it's only the last five years that have brought them back to the market and propelled them to the top of the heap. This is mainly due to low noise levels, lower running costs and greater reliability, compared to petrol models.
However, the team of enthusiastic engineers and lawnmakers around Tomáš Šena believe that there is still room for improvement, that there is still room to push the boundaries to satisfy and even excite demanding customers. That's why they have developed a completely new concept for a cylinder mower and named it ELO 2. The mower is not an enlargement of the ELO 1, it is a completely different concept.
The ELO 2 is not for everyone who has a lawn, it is for true enthusiasts and people for whom the average is not enough. For the lawnmaker who wants to move with the times in everything they surround themselves with. It's for those who expect premium service from a premium product.
Characteristics of basic parameters
The 50 cm wide ELO 2 cylinder mower is designed for home use for lawns of 200 to 1200 m2.
The mower is equipped with:
- BLDC electric motors,
- display,
- electronic cutting height adjustment,
- high-capacity lithium-ion battery (Li-Ion).
The battery is the most valuable part of this mower, it is the heart of the whole mower. That's why the designers have taken extra care with it.
The battery is housed in a special aluminium housing with a circular profile, which is the best possible solution from a safety point of view and which protects the operator best. The aluminium casing is the best way to dissipate any excess heat away from the battery and thus protect it against damage. The battery is integrated with plug-in charging. After mowing, just plug the charging plug into the mower and that's it.
This battery storage system allows maximum use of space for a higher capacity battery at the expense of bulky protective plastics, eliminating the risk of damage to the battery, such as the battery falling to the ground during removal or otherwise being exposed to the risk of impact and cell damage.
The battery has the characteristic that after 1000 charge cycles, its capacity can drop to 80% of its original capacity. This represents a lifetime of up to 20 years before its capacity is reduced by 20% when recharged twice a week, or 50 times a year. The battery is made up of high quality Li-Ion cells and can be easily replaced in the event of a fault or at the end of its service life. Our BMS (battery management system) can perfectly control the charging and discharging of the cells, thus protecting it from damage. It can prevent harmful undercharging and can also tell the service technician how the battery is being used and charged.
The centre of gravity of the entire mower is placed as low as can be imagined. This allows physically easy handling, beautiful stability and perfect balance of the whole machine.
The cartridge exchange system is also completely original. Each cassette includes its own electric motor, which makes it possible to efficiently deliver different power and torque for different working tools. For example, the motor for the cylinder has an optimum power output suitable for grass cutting, hence lower energy consumption than the more powerful motor needed for lawn verticutting. This allows mowing to be carried out for longer on a single charge than if an all-purpose motor was used that could also handle verticutting.
The entire construction of the mower and the basket is made of aluminium alloys, which radically reduces the weight of the machine frame and, of course, aluminium eliminates the possibility of corrosion of the structure. On the other hand, the working tools of the cassettes - cylinder, blades are made of wear-resistant steel. The whole mower is painted with high-quality hybrid paints resistant to sunlight, heat, frost.
The handlebars have been designed so that the mower is easy on the eye and effortless to operate. That's why the control levers are lightweight, so that squeezing them feels completely natural. The handlebars have a wider diameter so that they can be held firmly and do not provide a cramped grip that quickly tires the hands.
The handlebars include an energy-saving black and white display that informs the operator of the current status of the mower, helping to prevent faulty operation of the mower, eliminating the risk of malfunctions. Several operating settings can also be changed via the display, such as maximum travel speed, cutting height, cylinder speed, see statistics...
The mower is designed in such a way that the software can be easily updated during servicing. The mower itself can alert the user and the service that the time for service is approaching, the manufacturer is alerted to errors and can automatically correct them, thus improving the software. It is possible that after some time the customer will have a mower with more functions than the one they bought it with. The important thing is that the mower control does not become obsolete.
The aim of the authors was to create a mower that is as maintenance-free as possible. Of course, this goal has not yet been achieved, but once again the frontier has been pushed further towards preventing breakdowns and better control of the work being done. It is better to be warned in advance that something is wrong or not optimal than to find out all of a sudden that the machine no longer works at all or that the lawn has been mowed badly. Prevention is cheaper than cure.
The designers were looking at how best to increase energy efficiency. The first step was to eliminate unnecessary energy loss. Which was implemented primarily in the motors and the power distribution. BLDC motors (brushless DC motor) is the most efficient type of electric motor. These motors have many advantages over brushless DC motors and these are mainly higher power output, higher efficiency, higher reliability, lower maintenance requirements, higher durability, lower weight and higher dynamics. The elimination of belt slips and gear losses was another significant saving over the conventional solution. And in the final analysis, it was "only" necessary to choose the right battery to ensure that there was enough power.

Just a little more bait: the mower's travel solution is sure to cause a big stir, because it has never been done before.
Why did we give the option to pre-order?
It's simply good to know how much interest there is in the ELO 2 before it goes into production. From the reactions after the launch of the ELO 1, it's clear that the interest could again be higher than we think, which could lead to a long lead time. However, we want the opposite, to deliver as soon as possible, to all who are interested. And this is the only way we can get you into one group via pre-order.
The start of production is really hard to plan. The production has to buy enough material, something can be bought in a week, but something takes four months to deliver. Will the production be filled with enough trained workers? Questions abound at the start of a new project. And the more pre-orders we receive, this can also have a positive impact on the final price of ELO 2. There is a difference in the purchase price of the material if you order 1 piece or 100 pieces.
Of course, the pre-order can be cancelled at any time, in which case the deposit is 100% refundable. When the ELO 2 is officially presented in its full glory and with all key technical data, including the exact price, we will ask you to pay a deposit of 50% of the final price. The payment will turn your pre-order into a binding order that will be sent to production. Otherwise, your pre-order will be cancelled and your money will be refunded.
What will be the final price of ELO 2?
Unfortunately, we do not know yet. We know where we want to be with the price, but on the other hand we want to prosper and innovate, so it is possible that the price will move much more often than usual and will always respond to the current market situation. We want to use production resources efficiently, so we need to plan them optimally. We will announce the price at the latest at the premiere.
